Tree A starts with a Thomas Cudlip born about 1610 in Whitchurch, still a small traditional village that is now almost a suburb of Tavistock. The Tree rapidly splits into 3 main lines (Aa, Ab, Ac) after 2 generations. Line Aa subsequently divides into several smaller branches.
The Aa line is the main branch of the website creator (Wyn Cudlip). It includes the major Jersey sub-branch (Aa3e), the sub-branch (Aa3d) related to Sir Hugh Cudlipp, and the sub-branch (Aa1a) leading to Frederick Augustus Cudlipp after whom Cudlipp Point in New Zealand and Cudlipp Point on Vancouver Island are named.
Branch Ab linked to Petertavy and through to North-East England.
The Ac branch goes through Bickleigh, Stoke Damerel and ends with significant families in Canada, particularly New Brunswick:
The Aa Line has main sub-branches Aa1a, Aa3d, Aa3e, Aa3f and Aa5. The number indicates the 5 sons of John Cudlip and Elizabeth Ascot, married in 1734.
